Start out by filling out our foster application using this link: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/PHKS/Cat .
Once you’ve filled out the application, a member of our team will review it and reach out to you!

That’s perfectly okay! We’re here to walk you through every step of the way. As long as you’re willing to open up your home to a kitty in need and you promise to love it as much as you can, you’re already doing great!

Your main duty is the best one – to love and snuggle on some kitties! Besides that, we require you to drive your foster(s) to and from vet appointments, which may be early in the morning or possibly a bit of a drive depending on where you’re coming from. If your foster is taking any kind of medication you’ll need to be able to give it to them. Since we are a foster-based rescue, we rely solely on you guys! That means, if you agree to foster a cat for us, you will be fostering that cat until it is adopted. Sometimes that happens quickly and sometimes that takes a little while. We understand if an emergency happens which doesn’t allow you to continue to foster any longer, but other than that we do need you to keep your new foster as long as necessary!

Since we are a small rescue we don’t always have food or other supplies to give out. In that event, we do ask you to be prepared to provide supplies for your foster kitty on your own. If we have the supplies, though, we will always give what we have to our fosters! We try our best to take care of our fosters because we appreciate them so much!

Some cats are available for our foster-to-adopt program. These will typically be adult cats that either: 1. Have been with us for an extended amount of time, 2. Have behavioral concerns that some adopters may struggle with, 3. Are shy or fearful and need time to warm up to a new home, 4. Otherwise have some reason for being less likely to be adopted in a timely manner.

To FTA a cat in our care you MUST first fill out this application and it must be approved by our team: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/PHKS/138639-foster-to-adopt

While you are participating in this program, you will be treated as though you were any of our other fosters. We will do a basic background check and a member of our team will drop your foster off to you so we can do a simple, non-invasive, house tour. You will be required to take your foster to and from any vet appointments. For a full list of responsibilities as a foster, please read the rest of the foster info on this page.

You will have 2 weeks to decide whether you want to adopt your foster or not. During that time they will remain on the website and we will accept backup application in the event you decide to adopt, but it will have no affect on your experience. If, at the end of 2 weeks, you decide you will not be adopting your foster, you can still continue to foster the cat, they will just be available for anyone else to adopt. Alternatively, they can go back to the foster home they were previously in.

You will be required to pay a deposit that is half the adoption fee of that cat. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE but WILL go towards the adoption fee if you do decide to adopt. This is to lessen the risk of people taking the cat and ghosting us, never to return our animal. If this does still happen, the authorities will be notified, as the cat is still legally under the possession of our rescue, PHAR. Since the cat still belongs to the rescue, you CANNOT make any decisions about the cat’s health or wellbeing without first consulting us.
